We finished the March Madness 2023 Book Bracket this year. We read all 16 books and then voted our favorites to the Final 4! We highly recommend Dragons Love Tacos 2, Definitely Do Not Open This Book, The Brain is Kind of a Big Deal, and Meteors! Definitely Do Not Open This Book by Andy Lee was voted as our Championship book of 2023. We highly recommend you check out some of these books for the summer! Happy reading! We've had a busy week in second grade. On Friday afternoon, the second graders were able to have a little fun as they learned how Mentos candy reacts with soda. The science behind it is, as the Mentos candy sinks in the bottle, the candy causes the production of more and more carbon dioxide bubbles, and the rising bubbles react with carbon dioxide that is still dissolved in the soda to cause more carbon dioxide to be freed and create even more bubbles, resulting in the eruption. Hemos tenido una semana muy ocupada en segundo grado. El viernes por la tarde, los alumnos de segundo pudieron divertirse un poco aprendiendo cómo reaccionan los caramelos Mentos con la soda. The second graders participated in a science experiment today. They put a baking soda filled balloon on a bottle with vinegar in it. When combined the baking soda (an alkaline) reacts with vinegar (an acid), releasing carbon dioxide ( a gas ) which blows up the balloon. Los alumnos de segundo han participado hoy en un experimento científico. Han puesto un globo lleno de bicarbonato de sodio sobre una botella con vinagre. A huge thank you to Audrey and Marla Rock for showing the second graders around their feedlot and teaching us about their bison last week. They even shared their tasty bison meat sticks with us. Yummy! Un enorme agradecimiento a Audrey y Marla Rock por mostrar a los alumnos de segundo grado alrededor de su corral y enseñarnos acerca de los bisontes la semana pasada. The Recycle Club finished the year recycling over 2,500 pounds of cardboard, aluminum, paper and plastic. They celebrated with a trip to the roller rink. El Club de Reciclaje terminó el año reciclando más de 2.500 libras de cartón, aluminio, papel y plástico. Lo celebraron con una excursión a la pista de patinaje.

The third graders had a great time at the Fish Hatchery last week! They were able to feed the fish in the ponds, spot a fox, and play a game to learn about predators and prey. We'd like to thank Matt Hammond for being such a wonderful guide and answering all of our questions as we learned about the fish! The third graders enjoyed their tour through the Wray Museum yesterday. They loved learning about all the exhibits.
